New Blog for Flaming Skirt Photography Gallery

Update, I have transferred my blog to a new website address:

http://flamingskirtphotographygallery.blogspot.com/

Please update your information and check it out if you are interested. With the new address, I should be updating much more frequently since the process will be much less cumbersome. Thanks for all of your support :)

At Play

I've had an eventful summer with many play-dates. One thing that I loved about all of my playmates was their ability to live in the moment and enjoy what we were doing, when we were doing it. I had a great time making memories with my young friends and photographing some of our adventures. Click on the album below to see the pics!

I visited parks, set-up obstacle courses, went to the Zoo and the new Children's Museum in Madison, bowled, got creative with MadLibs, and played bocce ball-- just to name a few. It was a great reminder of how much fun you can have when you put your mind to it. It reminds me of one of my favorite silly songs:

Lessons learned this summer: it doesn't get much better than a good play-date. So,"knuckle-down, buckle-down, Do it! Do it! Do it!" ...

Stay posted for the next update!

Collecting

I realize that I've been neglectful of my blog in recent weeks. Not to worry, this doesn't mean I have also been neglectful of my photography. In fact, it turns out that I have a collection of photos that work nicely for a new blog update. Hopefully with this new season, fall (my favorite), there will be more regular blog posts once again.

Gone Country

A friend of a friend enlisted my photography services to take pictures of her two gorgeous horses. They were friendly, gentle and loved the camera! That or, they were too busy trying to get me to pet them to notice the camera. Either way, I had a great evening traipsing around the pasture taking photos of them. Here are some of the photos that came out of last week's shoot.

A Resting Place

A while ago, I asked people to give suggestions of things to photograph. A friend of mine suggested a graveyard. Today I had the opportunity to take him up on his suggestion. Forest Hill Cemetery was one of the first U.S. National Cemeteries established in Wisconsin, and it is just a couple of miles from the heart of downtown Madison. It was created near the time of the civil war, but even prior to that, it served as a resting place-- for Native Americans. There is an effigy mound on the southeast side of the cemetery in the shape of a goose. Unfortunately, photographing this wouldn't do it justice- at least not from any angle I could get. But, I came away from the visit with 28 other photographs and dodged most of the mosquitos too.

Blooms & Butterflies!

Round 2 at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. This weekend I went with a friend to the Blooming Butterfly Exhibit at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. In addition to butterflies, the Bolz Conservatory included goldfish, waterfalls, lush tropical gardens (including a tree that looked like it belonged in a Dr. Seuss book- look for the tree with the fuzzy pink ribbon-like streamers), and small flightless birds.
We also wandered the outdoor gardens to see what new blooms had popped open. Check out our adventures below.

A Walk Down Willy St.

Williamson St. in Madison is better known as Willy St. It's neighborhood-y, eclectic, and interesting. Restaurants, stores, galleries and houses-- all interspersed. I took a walk on Sunday night to give you a tour of this character-filled neighborhood. Hope you appreciate it as much as I do!
